Life After Life: In Loving Memory

While I was preparing for this post, I received a phone call from my mother, telling me that my cousin who had had an accident a week ago, had succumbed.  The nonchalance in which messages are passed to those in the diaspora, always comes back to haunt you. I did not have the details of the seriousness of the matter, so his passing came as a shock.

How To Shop Men's Wear and How To Wear His Blazer: Featuring Mimiri's Mechanic Pants.

Blazers are everywhere, with my personal favourite being a thrifted, oversized one. Naturally, I am a thrifter. I spent so much time rummaging through piles of Mitumba (second hand) during my teenage years, that my sister has flashbacks. I had to bribe her to hang around, while I treasure hunted. It remains one of my favourite ways to shop till to date.

Staying in style doesn’t have to break the bank. You can do it efficiently with a few tricks. Here they are:

How To Maximize Your Wardrobe Whilst Buying Less: Featuring the Mimiri Oversized Print Coat

I am a serious repeat offender when it comes to clothes. I learned very early on from my mother; the art of mixing, matching and shopping in my closet first, before going out to purchase something new. Whenever there is an event, my first instinct is to shop. Because naturally there is never anything to wear.

I don’t know if you, like me, have made those last minute purchases and ended up wearing the outfit never again. That is because you settled or ran out of time. When we shop without an event in mind. We are often more relaxed and are able to make a sound decision. With fast fashion, you find yourself with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear.

Letting Go of My Inner Perfectionist: Featuring the Mimiri Oversized Print Coat

Blogging while in the beautiful city of Helsinki. *Sigh*. My days comprise of looking out the window, hoping for an array of sunshine, or some light to work with. Being a perfectionist, does not help the situation at all. We will find solutions for sure. I have been challenged by John Magiro who from the age of 10, worked day and night without any knowledge of physics, to bring electricity to his rural community. Stories like these inspire and challenge me.

A Seasonal Transition: Featuring the Mimiri Oversized Maasai Print Coat

These past two weeks have been busy. One of them actually. Last week I was in bed nursing a cold. I tried to gather strength to put out a blog post, but my itchy eyes and runny nose would not let me. This is how we usher in a new season without fail.

How to Style Oversized Coats

I had this fabric laying around here for some time. It was the only piece left at the fabric store, at the time. My initial plan was to make pants since my favourite ones, had come from the same type of fabric. Click here to see my favourite pants.

Naturally, I'm all about timelessness. When I make or buy something, I think of how long I would like to wear it. I have items of clothing that I bought ten years ago and beyond. Some are to help me keep track of my weight *winks*.

The Mechanic: A Two-Piece African Print Overall

High waist and crop tops cover all sin. I take time to connect with how I feel before designing an outfit. I wanted to make something that does not require any buttons or zippers. I call this outfit the mechanic.

I love the freedom an overall gives you (onesie). I have never worn one, but I find them incredibly appealing. I have imagined myself  wearing a greasy one with heels on many occasions. *Is that a fetish?* This is the closest I could come to that fantasy.
