Life After Life: In Loving Memory

While I was preparing for this post, I received a phone call from my mother, telling me that my cousin who had had an accident a week ago, had succumbed.  The nonchalance in which messages are passed to those in the diaspora, always comes back to haunt you. I did not have the details of the seriousness of the matter, so his passing came as a shock.

I made this dress last summer and never got a chance to share, I thought I would wear it to mourn my cousin. The red blazer is to celebrate the life he lived. I'm thankful that he lived.

My Aunt passed away 27 years ago today, at the age of 44 and my cousin was the same age. I remember being at my grandmother's and running really fast whenever I would pass her grave. Today I will remember them, not with fear but with love, not as they are but as they were. This does not make it easier but it does remind all of us to have peace.

Reke nie thie is Kikuyu for allow me to go  I just learnt from my other cousin that she had a dream where he asked her to allow him to go. This is a consolation for me, that he was ready and willing. May his soul rest in peace. And to all those who are mourning, may you find comfort.

Please share and comment on the blog section below. Thank you so much for stopping by xoxo.
